Inside The Pouch (plus some of my favorite things)

So it’s been almost a month since I wrote anything here – I blame law school, haha! It really does take an enormous amount of hard work and effort just to get through each day. I’ve also been getting sick, and I think it’s also due to all the acacia trees in the campus – ALLERGENS GALOOOOOOORE! In the range of a month I’ve had 3 separate allergic rhinitis spells, and most recently, a sinus infection (it’s my 3rd day today–).

Just a little while ago, I sneezed.. and there was blood spatter all over my hands. My nose was bleeding! ;A;

Okay, enough gross stuff now. Time for a post!

Ta-daaaaaaaah! For today’s post, I’ll be revealing to you what’s inside my trusty pouch. I’ve actually been bringing this around quite often, but because there are times that I am just too lazy to do anything other than wipe my face with a tissue and hope it doesn’t look like a shipping vessel dumped oil all over it (heh), I end up just leaving it untouched in my bag. Oh well. /sighs/

First of all, let’s discuss the pouch.

Would you believe this was a purchase from NATIONAL BOOKSTORE? It’s actually a pencil case!

Makeup pouches, or small and stylish pouches in general, can be ridiculously expensive. A good alternative is to check out your local bookstore, school supplies outlet, or even department store for cute pencil cases. I bought this mainly it has my two favorite colours (blue and purple), and also because the print looks like INFINITE’s logo (coughfangirlmomentcough) – and it was a little under Php100. How could I pass it up?

I also originally bought this for a Boracay trip with my cousins last December; so an important thing for me when I was looking for a suitable pencil case was a strap so I could just loop it around my wrist. I tend to forget about small bags or clutches, so the wrist strap was a really good feature to it. Functional, too.

Time to open the pouch!

Such a hodgepodge of mostly lip stuff. Heehee.

It’s not very impressive.. but these are pretty much enough for me to get through a day. That is, if I decide to put on makeup, haha~

If you notice, most of my products here are for lips. I’m usually too lazy to put on eye makeup or hassle myself with getting an even coverage with concealer and powder (oops), but the thing I love about lip products is that sometimes you just need a few swipes of a good colour to really pick you up. These days I’m into stick/crayon type things because they’re easy to carry and so easy to hold as well. They remind me of My First Crayolas!

ZA Perfect Fit Two-Way Foundation in P020 – I purchased this at SM Southmall in around April. ZA was actually quite a popular brand in the 90s, with the rise of MTV Asia and all their gnarly commercials. I thought it had disappeared but was pleasantly surprised with its reemergence! I was looking around the makeup counters at SM Southmall’s department store and ended up swatching their powder foundation.. I was hooked! They even had a special promo, that if you purchased the limited edition ZA x Naho Ogawa foundation case, you would get two free pans of powder foundation. You could pick between the pink and blue case, and I obviously picked blue.

Fun fact: One of my best friends, Lala/Gax, also has the same powder foundation, albeit in a different shade, but with the exact same case. She thought I had picked the pink one.. so now we have matchy compacts.
Fun fact #2: ZA is actually a subsidiary of Shiseido.

K-Palette Økuma Concealer in Type 1 – Lala totally influenced me on this one. She’s gone through a couple of tubes of Type 2 – or was it 3 – (which I have found lying around in her room ehe–). A number of cosplayer friends that I know also use this, and because typically, cosplayers have makeup know-how (at least, the ones I know), I wanted to see for myself how it would work on a mere mortal like me. Haha!

I bought mine from Beauty Bar, also in April. I don’t remember how much I bought it for, though, because it was bundled with one of their 1-Day Lash Perm/1-Day Tattoo Mascara. It’s fairly pricey, but it’s worth it because I don’t need very much to cover my undereye dark circles (my panda patches, hehe) and the red bits under my nose as well as the sides, and then my chin as well.

Etude House Rosy Tint Lips in #8 After Blossom – I love thisssssss. I’ve really been into gradient lips lately and this is my favorite product to use. I’d seen this around a lot of Etude House shops but never really got to buying it.. until I tried swatching them while I was at my friend Azaza’s house! She’s almost got the complete set. (Actually, she’s got a lot of things – she’s a freelance makeup artist so her makeup hoarding is justified. Haha! But seriously, she’s awesome! Check her out here!)

It’s a very wearable shade. It’s a gorgeous, blue-based dark, almost carmine, pink; plus it’s one of their best sellers among the Rosy Tint Lips line from their 2013 Rose & Fall Collection. The sponge applicator is perfect for gradient lips, but I just tend to use a clean fingertip to dab the colour onto my inner lips for the effect.

Now I want another tube. =n= (Ehem, Manila friends. XD)

Too Cool For School Lost Identity Lip Crayon in Lost in Hawaii – Too Cool For School is definitely one of my favorite brands now. My friend Chesra introduced this to me when we hung out around May. TCFS really piqued my interest because of their clever branding and eye-catching packaging, especially their Dinoplatz line because DINOSAURS.

The Lost Identity lip crayon actually comes in three colours.. and it’s called Lost Identity because it changes colour!

Lost in Hawaii, pictured here, is a bright orange in the tube but once applied, turns to a delicious orange creamsicle hue.
Lost in You, which is a deep pink in the tube, applies a lovely rosy pink.
Lost in Dinoplatz which is a mint green (!!) in the tube changes into a rosy pink as well when applied.

I love that it’s a twist-up crayon – no need for fiddly sharpeners.

Majolica Majorca Brow & Lash Colorist in BR555 Maroon Brown – Another one of my April purchases (crap, I seem to have bought a lot of makeup in April-May), I use this only for my brows. Typically, I put on brow powder because though my eyebrows are thick, they are actually quite sparse, so I need a brow powder to fill them in. Then this little baby goes to work – I brush this on top of my brows, and though the colour may be light, my current hair is actually quite brown as well (dyed in February, now growing it out again) so it’s not too much of a leap. The best part is that this doesn’t dry all stiff, so your brows are still quite touchable!

Fun fact: Like ZA, Majolica Majorca is under the Shiseido group of brands and subsidiaries.

Clio O’Tank Volume Mascara – I got this bundled with their Kill Black  Waterproof Brush Liner. Unfortunately, the gold print on it has rubbed off from all the times it’s been tumbled around in the pouch. ;A; I love this mascara, though! It’s very pigmented, and it really is waterproof as well as add volume to your lashes as per its claim.

Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Whimsical – Another discovery from my friend Azaza, she had three different shades in her inventory (heehee) at home, and I decided to buy a different colour. I purchased this from the Superb Bazaar last May, and I quite like this. It leaves a tingly, minty feel on your lips once applied. The problem with this is that it has glitters! I’m not too much of a glitter fan (unless it’s subtle, or minimal).. but well. It’s a lovely sheer burgundy and it applies smoothly.

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Anti-Oxidant Berry – I’m surprised to not have lost this yet, as I usually do with lip balms. It’s a favorite because it keeps my lips soft and smooth, not to mention the flavor is yummy. (I don’t eat this, of course. Haha!)

Marionnaud mini eyebrow razor/lash comb/ brow brush – I bought this as a pack of two at Watson’s; the other one is back home in Manila. I love that it’s mini and travel-sized! It still does what it intends to do pretty well. Sometimes when I’m too lazy to bring a separate brush and want to fill in my brows, I use the brush side to apply the brow powder. Heehee.

e.l.f. Eyelash Curler – Also purchased at last May’s Superb Bazaar. My older sister Ate Imee says this is an essential.. and it really is! On days when I am lazier than lazy to do anything to make myself look like a regular human being, I curl my lashes and then my eyes look a bit more awake.

Now, here’s a couple of things that aren’t in the kit, but I still use from time to time!

Maybelline the COLOSSAL Volum’Express Mascara (Smoky Eyes) in Brown – You may have seen this in a previous post, in my review on ONL’s Ugly Farm Rice Cleansing Tissue. I love this! I also purchased this from the Superb Bazaar (can you tell how much fun I had there–), and it’s definitely one of my favorite mascaras. My lashes look so lush and fab and doll-like!

Three Custom Color Specialists Brow Powder in 3 – This one is a gift from an aunt. Good thing, because I checked the price online and it costs $22.50, which is almost a thousand pesos! It can be used wet or dry, and this is what I use to fill in my brows.

e.l.f. Powder Brush – Given by Azaza. This has a funny story behind it.. but anyway, I use this to buff after I apply my powder foundation. Powders tend to cake, so I buff it out to achieve a more natural look without looking too Photoshopped. Hee.

Marionnaud Eyes Brush No. 35 – This is actually a small eyeshadow brush, but I use mainly use this to apply brow powder. This is also the first ever makeup brush I bought!

And of course, my trusty ONL Ugly Farm Rice Cleansing Tissue! (Click here for my post about it!)

And for my “some of my favorite things”, we have a trio of lovely bottles~

OGX Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Cream – From the brand formerly known as Organix, this is yet another recommendation from Azaza! She’s almost always the first to recommend hair products for me. As a curlytop, I barely brush or comb my hair, but of course even curls need some lovin’. This rich cream has argan oil, which is pretty much one of the current trends in hair care, and nourishes my curls so they’re soft and touchable. It smells lovely, too!

Formula 10.0.6 Picture Perfect Day Gel Moisturizer – For the longest time, I had been using their Face The Day tinted moisturizer.. BUT I COULDN’T SEEM TO FIND IT ANYMORE AT ANY BEAUTY BAR BRANCH! I was bummed until I decided to purchase this gel moisturizer. It’s not tinted, but it absorbs nicely into my skin. It hydrates and protects, and I love a good multi-purpose product! Sometimes I use this for my hands, too.

Fun fact: Formula 10.0.6 is under The Bonne Bell Company, which makes the Lip Smackers flavored balms!

Nature Republic France Mud Deep Clean Pack – If you can’t get over the premise of using mud as a way to cleanse skin, then get over it! This deep cleansing face pack is definitely a treat. Sure, you might look like a creepy mud monster for a little while, but after washing this off, your face will feel so clean and fresh. It strips excess oil, removes impurities, and cleanses pores. I love this! I just wish I had more time to use it.

And that’s it for this post! I’ll be making another one later today, but for now I have to read up because it’s midterms week soon. 😀

xo Marianne
